Partnership with Wolters Kluwer to Advance Success and Benefits of ASN Journals
ASN is retaining complete control over editorial content, strategy, and decisions while gaining technical, editorial, sales, and financial support. ASN will continue publishing cutting-edge nephrology science.
In January 2023, the American Society of Nephrology (ASN) will transition JASN, CJASN, and Kidney360 to Wolters Kluwer (WK), a publisher with a robust understanding of scientific and medical publishing and a proven track record of success. As our publishing partner, WK will provide the tools and services necessary to expand ASN’s reach to new global audiences, streamline the submission process, and offer new benefits to members.
“Through our collaboration with Wolters Kluwer we are reaffirming our commitment to sharing the highest-quality and most exciting peer-reviewed scientific findings in our leading nephrology publications,” said ASN President Susan E. Quaggin, MD, FASN.
In July 1990, ASN published the first issue of the Journal of the American Society of Nephrology (JASN) with the intent to publish the highest quality and innovative peer-reviewed scientific findings in the nephrology field. To strengthen that intent, ASN has launched two additional journals, the Clinical Journal of the American Society of Nephrology (CJASN) in 2006 and Kidney360 in 2020. Each year ASN publishes about 1,000 peer-reviewed articles across these three journals. This new collaboration with WK allows ASN to meet and exceed the criteria for scientific publishing, advance peer-reviewed articles, and remain competitive within the scholarly space.
ASN will provide new benefits and features to members and journal subscribers. All ASN journals will maintain editorial ownership and oversight and continue to provide the highest quality findings within the field.
In the coming months, ASN will provide details about enhanced member benefits, including new discounts for corresponding authors, discounts on Wolters Kluwer Health (WKH) nephrology books, seamless sign-on, discounts to UpToDate, and more. In addition, the global readership of all journals will expand through the integration with Ovid Search Service used by institutions throughout the world.
ASN will launch a new manuscript submission system, Editorial Manager, in the fourth quarter of 2022. Aimed at streamlining the author submission process and advancing engagement with ASN’s editorial teams and articles, Editorial Manager will feature a standard login for authors, reviewers, and editors; direct integration with the copyediting and composition production system; and increased avenues for reviewer recognition via ORCID, ReviewerCredits, and Publons. This change will not affect manuscripts currently in process in ScholarOne and eJournal Press.
Under the new arrangement, ASN gains technical, editorial, and sales support to continue publishing cutting edge nephrology science. The services that Wolters Kluwer will provide include the manuscript submission system, editing, conversion and composition, printing, and distribution.
“This new relationship will help further our vision of a world without kidney diseases by sharing new knowledge with health professionals and scientists, thereby advancing research and innovation,” added Dr. Quaggin.
