ASN Innovation Projects Seek Public Comment

KidneyX_logo_0.PNGThe Kidney Health Initiative (KHI) and KidneyX are leading the fight to put new tools in the hands of kidney health professionals by stimulating the development of new solutions for patients with kidney diseases. Both of these initiatives help the kidney community by giving new tools to nephrologists in their fight against kidney diseases, providing inspiration to future nephrologists, and offering hope the patients we treat every day.

People with kidney diseases demand innovation. KHI and KidneyX are delivering. Today, KHI released a draft version of its signature project the Technology Roadmap for Innovative Renal Replacement Therapy. KidneyX has also released two Requests for Information soliciting feedback on the design of the prize competition and the KidneyX initiative broadly.

The KHI roadmap, developed in collaboration with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration outlines strategies and research pathways needed to more effectively and efficiently develop commercially viable RRT alternatives to current dialysis therapy. This framework will be utilized by KidneyX to support fundable projects in its initial prize competition.

KidneyX is committed to designing the prize competitions with input from patients and innovators. The first RFI, Requesting Your Feedback on KidneyX , broadly focuses on KidneyX and asks which specific therapeutic areas should KidneyX focus on in future prize competition rounds. The second RFI, Requesting Your Feedback on the First KidneyX Prize Competition , focuses on the first prize competition (improving kidney replacement therapies for patients) and provides details on how the application, judging, and selection process will be conducted as well as a few general categories for solutions that could be submitted.

KHI and KidneyX seek input from researchers, academics, clinicians, and other relevant stakeholders during the public comment period. Your comments will inform significant announcements at ASN Kidney Week 2018 in San Diego, California.
