MedPAC
“MedPAC plays a crucial role advising Congress on payment issues for Medicare beneficiaries. Given that Medicare is the payer for most patients with ESRD, it’s great to be able to bring the perspective from almost two decades of nephrology practice to help ensure that the program understands the needs of patients and providers, while maintaining good stewardship of taxpayer dollars,” commented Dr. Jaffery.
Congress established MedPAC in 1997 to analyze access to care, cost and quality of care, and other key issues affecting Medicare. MedPAC advises Congress on payments to providers in Medicare’s traditional fee-for-service programs and to health plans participating in the Medicare Advantage program. The Comptroller General of GAO is responsible for naming new commission members.
Dr. Jaffery is a Professor of Medicine at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health in Madison, WI, and a practicing nephrologist. Dr. Jaffery serves as the Chief Population Health Officer at UW Health and as the President and CEO at UW Health ACO, Inc., where he is responsible for the overall development, coordination, and implementation of UW Health’s population health management strategy.
PEHRC
“As medical professionals, we interact daily with electronic health records and invest considerable time with the EHR, ultimately with the hope of improving medical care and communication. Making this time and effort as high yield as possible is a critical goal,” said Dr. Weiner.
PEHRC is committed to taking practical steps to educate physicians about the value and best use of EHRs and focus on advocating for high-quality and affordable products.
In addition to chairing the ASN Quality Committee, Dr. Weiner is a nephrologist at Tufts Medical Center and Associate Professor of Medicine at Tufts University School of Medicine, a clinician, and a clinical researcher.
