Project Title: Renal Mechanisms for Hypertension in Diabetes

How would you sum up your research in one sentence?

  • My research interests lie in the field of renal pathophysiology and hypertension.

What impact do you hope your research will have on patients?

  • The rate of hypertension is more than 2-fold higher in diabetic patients than non-diabetic population. Diabetic patients with hypertension exhibit an increased risk for diabetic complications. My current study would provide a novel therapeutic target, SGLT1-NOS1 pathway, for hypertension in diabetic patients.

What are your short- and long-term career goals?

  • I will try to apply an K99 transition grant and seek an academic tenure-track position at the end of this grant period. My long-term career goal is to be an NIH-funded independent investigator focusing on renal physiology-and pathophysiology studies.

What inspired you to focus your research in kidney diseases?

  • The sophisticated experimental techniques, which gradually fostered my interest and inspired me to pursue my career goals on kidney research.

Please describe the importance of having grant funding available through the ASN Foundation.

  • The current ASN postdoctoral fellowship will serve as a critical milestone in my academic career and significantly facilitate my goal achievement.

What advice would you give to others to encourage them to apply for this grant funding?

  • This grant funding opportunity from ASN would not only support your meritorious research project but also significantly advance your career on kidney research.
