- CMS Establishes Reimbursement Parity Between Telephonic Visits and Office and Outpatient Visits

  • After a concerted advocacy effort by the American Society of Nephrology (ASN) and a large coalition of medical societies, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has announced it is increasing payments for audio-only telephone visits to match payments for similar office and outpatient visits.
     

- Excerpt – “Nephrology Fellowship Education: Moving Apart to Come Together during COVID-19”

  • COVID-19 has necessitated a transformation in how medical education is delivered to trainees, presenting new opportunities, but also concerns for the adequacy of ongoing instruction. Education during the pandemic must “balance education with safety,” state Sam Kant, MD, and C. John Sperati, MD, in a Perspective to appear in the June Kidney News
     

- Joint statement ASN, ERA EDTA, ISN: Ensuring optimal care for people with kidney diseases during the COVID-19 pandemic

  • The American Society of Nephrology (ASN), the European Renal Association – European Dialysis and Transplant Association (ERA-EDTA), and the International Society of Nephrology (ISN) released a joint statement today. The statement emphasizes the need for appropriate care for dialysis patients during the COVID-19 pandemic.
