The Living Donor Protection Act of 2019 Reintroduced in House and Senate

The Living Donor Protection Act of 2019, a longstanding priority of the ASN Policy and Advocacy Committee and the larger kidney and transplant community, has been reintroduced in the House of Representatives and Senate by Representatives Jaime Herrera-Beulter (R-WA) and Jerry Nadler (D-NY), and Senators Kristen Gillibrand (D-NY) and Tom Cotton (R-AR).

ASN President's Column: Strategic Goals for 2019

I am honored to be ASN President in 2019 and excited by the possibilities for this year. ASN developed and launched a 5-year strategic plan in 2016. Significant progress has been made on all strategic goals, and these remain as the main issues ASN will need to address over the course of the next year. In 2019, I’d like to see ASN focus on accomplishing three broad goals that will continue the society’s momentum and help accomplish the strategic plan by the end of 2020.

NIH All of Us Research Program: 100,000 Participants and 2019 Update

The All of Us Research Program, a groundbreaking research effort funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), has officially enrolled over 100,000 core participants. The effort looks to collect data from one million individuals on their health, habits and location to look for patterns that may affects one’s health with the goal of accelerating research and developing personalized and highly effective health care.

ASN Fighting for the Six Protected Classes of Drugs

The American Society of Nephrology (ASN) submitted comments to Medicare on its Medicare Advantage and Part D Drug Pricing Proposed Rule on January 25.  ASN objected to segments of the proposed rule that remove protections from the “six protected classes of drugs” in Medicare Part D.

New Website Launched for the Kidney Health Initiative

The Kidney Health Initiative (KHI) recently released a new website to inform the community about its mission, objectives, and membership. The new site also showcases the publications from completed projects since the formation of KHI in 2012.

Nominations for ASN Midcareer Awards are Open

Nominations for ASN’s midcareer awards are open. These awards identify those who exemplify the very best in our field. Recognize your peers for their work in the fight against kidney disease.

To nominate a candidate, submit one letter of nomination and the nominee’s curriculum vitae (CV). Please note that ASN can only accept one nomination letter per candidate; however, the letter may have multiple signatories.

The deadline for all ASN midcareer awards nominations is through Friday, March 22, 2019.
