NKF and ASN Form Joint Task Force to Focus on Use of Race in eGFR

In August of 2020, the National Kidney Foundation (NKF) and the American Society of Nephrology (ASN) formed a joint task force to focus on the use of race to estimate GFR. Statement from the American Society of Nephrology on the End-Stage Renal Disease Treatment Choices Model

The American Society of Nephrology (ASN) commends the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and its Innovation Center (CMMI) for finalizing the End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) Treatment Choices (ETC) Model today. This model will herald positive changes to care for the more than 37 million Americans with kidney diseases, including more patient choice, increased utilization of home dialysis, and greater access to transplantation, options for which ASN has long advocated.

Applications for nephrology fellowships in the first month of a pandemic-shortened application cycle were up according to Electronic Residency Application System (ERAS) data showing nephrology application through August 17, 2020, rose 49% compared with July 2019.

In receiving Joint Accreditation status from ACCME, ASN will continue its exceptional commitment to education

On July 27, 2020, the governing bodies of Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Accreditation Program (ANCC) granted the American Society of Nephrology (ASN) with Joint Accreditation for 6 years.

What does this mean for ASN and the community it serves? ASN is now simultaneously accredited to provide medical, nursing and pharmacy continuing education activities through a single process, without needing to obtain separate accreditations.

KidneyX Summit Announces Winners of the Redesign Dialysis Phase 2 Prize

Today, July 22nd, a virtual summit was hosted by KidneyX to announce the six winners of the Redesign Dialysis Phase 2 prize. The goal of the Redesign Dialysis prize is to provide prize money for novel ideas and innovations that will lead to better outcomes for people with kidney diseases and eventually to a truly artificial kidney.

ASN Helps Shape Federal COVID-19 Response

As the threat of COVID-19 was emerging in the United States, ASN and the broader kidney community participated in an effort organized by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to develop policy recommendations that address the effects of COVID-19 on kidney patients and kidney care professionals.
